Simple design with seashell castings, this iron and brass bed would fit into any decorating style and any type of home from rustic to contemporary to century
house to farmhouse.
The showcase feature of this bed is the elaborate 'shoulders' which are cast iron. This style is different than most other antique beds. Usually
you see either a brass knob atop the post or a simple rounded shoulder.
This iron bed started off life as a 3/4 size bed which was 48" wide. It is now 60" wide using identical seashell castings found in our large 'boneyard'
of spare parts. The side rails have been lengthened to accommodate a modern day queen size bed. Queen and king size beds did not start
to gain popularity until the middle of the last century.
During the restoration process, this Victorian era metal bed had the old lead paint sandblasted off and replaced with a durable baked on lead free paint
in a high gloss white finish.
This iron bed was handmade before the start of World War One. When the war started in 1914, production of cast iron beds dropped significantly because
iron was diverted for the war effort. After the war, metal beds were mass produced in aluminum, a much easier and lighter metal to work with.
Cross supports are included.
Bedding and accessories not included.
